GENERAL CARE

 

Below is a summary of general product care guidelines and tips. Specific care instructions for various items can be found by clicking the appropriate link below General Care

  • Do not place any indoor furniture in direct sunlight as this can cause fabric, material and leathers to fade or crack. Direct sunlight also includes exposure through a window. Curtins or blinds are advised to protect your furniture
  • Avoid placing furniture too close to a heater or air conditioning vent as this can cause the material or surface finish to become disotorted.
  • Never drag furniture. Always lift furniture when moving it around your home.
  • It is recommended to rotate cushions regularly to even the wear and fading.
  • Do not sit on the arms of sofas or chairs
  • Avoiding standing or rocking on chairs as it may weaken the structure and possibly cause joint failure.
  • To avoid or minimise damage to floor coverings, use floor protectors on the bottom of furniture.
  • Use place mats, tableclothes, table runners and coasters to protect furniture surfaces.

Fabric Upholstery

  • Dirt, teamed with body moisture can cause grime which discolours the fabric. Vaccum regularly with a soft upholstery attachment to remove grit that can also wear away the fabric.
  • Avoid placing fabric items near direct sun or heat as it can cause them to fade and damage the fabric. Blinds and curtins are recommended to help protect your fabric.
  • Rotate cushions where possible to even the wear of the fabric.
  • Use a professional dry cleaning service at least once a year to maintain the appearance of the fabric.
  • Soil Guard will warrant against permanent staining from food and beverage and is available to purchase.
  • Temporary pilling can occur on some fabrics. This is not considered a fault and can be removed using a de-pilling machine.
  • Loose threads must be cut and not pulled.
  • Arm caps will improve the longevity of your sofa.

 

 

Leather

  • Looking after leather is like looking after your own skin. It needs regular cleaning and moisturising to keep it in top condition. It is recommended to use leather cleaning products approximately every 12 weeks.
  • Body oils can oxidize the leather which can change the colour.
  • Food oils must be cleaned immediately as it can permanently bond the leather.
  • Vaccum regularly with a soft upholstery attachment to remove grit that can also wear away the leather.
  • Avoid placing leather near direct sun or heat sources to avoid damage to the leather.
  • As leather is a natural product, the variations in colour, grain and texture are recognised as a feature.
  • It is best to speak to one of our trained staff members to discuss which type of leather is best suited to your lifestyle.
  • Our leathers come in bicast, corrected, semi-corrected, waxed, pull up, semi-aniline and aniline. Or a combined of these.

 

 

Mattresses

  • Vaccum regularly to avoid and reduce dust build up.
  • Use a mattress protector to guard against staining
  • Turning the mattress will increase the longevity of the product as it allows the mattress to air and reduces moisture build up. Some do not require turn-over. Always refer to the manufacturers specific instructions.
  • Avoid sitting on the sides of the mattress as it can create a weakness in that area. Bending or jumping on the mattress will cause damage.

 

 

Self Assembly Furniture

  • Do not assemble on a soft surface.
  • Ensure all parts have been supplied before beginning assembly.
  • Assembly large furniture items in the room they will be placed.
  • Any fasterners (bolts, screws etc) should be checked and re-tightened every three months.
  • Always keep assembly instructions in a safe place should you need them in the future.

 

 

Solid Timber and Timber Veneer Furniture

  • Tableware (tableclothes, runners and coasters) help protect timber and timber veneer from scratching.
  • Do not place hot or wet items directly on the surface as they can leave marks which are hard to remove.
  • Avoid direct sun as it will cause discolouration.
  • Dust once a week using a soft cloth or similar item.
  • Polish furniture every 3-6 months. Ensure it is dust-free before polishing.
  • Be careful that you do not apply too much polish as this will build up and need to be removed with a wood cleaning product.

 

 

Synthetic Finishes

  • Dust surface once a week with soft cloth.
  • In order to remove stubborn stains, use warm soapy water and a clean cloth. Make sure the surface is completely dry after removing stain.
  • Immediately remove any liquid spills to avoid damage.
  • Use a touch-up pen to correct minor scratches.
  • Always use tableware (tablecloths, runners and coasters) to avoid possibe damage.

 

 

Marble

  • Dust surface once a week with soft cloth.
  • In order to remove stubborn stains, use warm soapy water and a clean cloth. Make sure the surface is completely dry after removing stain.
  • Do not use strong chemicals as it can destroy the finish.
  • If damage occurs, contact a professional, such as a stone mason.
  • Always use tableware (tablecloths, runners and coasters) to avoid possibe damage from heat.

 

 

Metal Finishes

  • Dust regularly to avoid dirt build-up.
  • Do not use harsh abrasives to clean any metal surfaces.
  • To avoid rusting, ensure you repair all damaged surfaces immediately.
  • Chrome and stainless steel products can be cleaned with a dedicated metal cleaning product.
  • Metal finished products are not recommended for outdoor use as exposure to a damp or wet environment will cause corrosion.

 

 

Permanent Outdoor Furniture

  • It is only recommended that furniture marked for specific outdoor use be used externally.
  • Any outdoor wooden furniture that can be left permanently outside requires maintenance at least twice a year. Remove oil and dirt with a stiff brush and apply Outdoor Timber Oil. Leave for a few hours and wipe off excess.
  • Over time, all wooden furniture will naturally change to a grey colour.

 

 

Glass

  • Dust with a soft, dry cloth frequently.
  • When using a glass cleaner, always follow the instructions.
  • Place any frosted glass, frosted side down. Do not allow greasy or dirty items to come into contact with frosted side. It can leave marks that are difficult to remove. If this occurs, use a cut raw potatoe.
  • If glass is subjected to thermal or mechanical stress, it can be weakened and may break or shatter.

 

 

Wicker, Cane an Abacca

  • Not recommended for outdoor use.
  • Avoid direct sunlight to avoid excessive fading
  • Vaccum regularly by using the upholstery attachment.
  • Wipe down with a damp soft cloth weekly, but avoid over-wetting the natural fibre as mould will occur.

 

 

Rugs

  • Avoid direct sunlight to avoid excessive fading.
  • The use of an underaly is recommended for slippery surfaces or to protect the carpet.
  • Always refer to the care label attachment on the reverse of the rug before cleaning.
  • Wool rugs will naturally shed excess pile during the first three motnhs (or more depending on use). Weekly vaccumming will reduce the effect.
  • Always take care when vaccuuming rugs.
